Call for Stories, Art, Photographs

News: I am officially writing a full length book about kundalini yoga and meditation for an LDS audience. I even have a deadline from God. I'm still not sure who is gonna publish it, but I'm sure that will work out like it did with The Gift of Giving Life. Hopefully it will be in e-book form too. There are going to be lots of pictures.

Based on some excellent ideas from students and readers it will not only be a book, but also a manual with pictures or illustrations that show how to do selected kriyas and meditations and pranayams. (And some explanation about what all that is.) There will also be a CD with music. Yes. Music. It's been kind of top secret, but I am going to record an album of mantras. I hope to record two albums--one of kundalini mantras (which are mostly all in a language called Gurbani, Gurmukhi, or Sanskrit) and one of mantras in the scriptures. Or maybe I will combine them/mix them. I am kinda loving the remix idea right now. Who knows. I am currently gathering the composer talent and some great voices who know how to sing from the heart chakra and from the aura. I have no idea how it will all come together, but it has to happen, so God will make it work. Did I mention my dad is rich? Yeah. He's highly connected and owns everything. He he.
Me, Dome Rock, Sequoia Nat'l Park
As my dear collaborator Lani pointed out, The Gift of Giving Life has been so successful because we included many voices. So for this book, I plan to include many testimonials and stories that tell the real power of the technology.

I'm not sure how I will organize the book yet, but I think that I may organize the kriyas and meditations by virtues that sort of fall under the umbrella of each chakra. And for each, I would love a short little story or testimonial from a real person who is willing to let me use their name and maybe their picture. For example, I would love to show how meditation and kriya yoga helps with mental illness, addiction, and specific health issues. I have some people already in mind for these stories, but there are dozens more possibilities of things that could be included, including an increase in faith, in unity, in prosperity, peace, health, confidence, and more.

I prefer to hear from people who have completed at least 120 days of meditation and plan on keeping it a part of their life, but I am open to consider anything you want to share.

Here is the general format I am looking for: I'd love to know a little about you (age, job or calling in life, city, state, country, etc), then what drew you to kundalini Yoga or meditation, and what your intention(s) have been for your practice and then what you have noticed after an extended period--everything you have noticed--even the unexpected. Some questions to consider are: How has it helped your daily coping, your relationships, your personal relationship with God. How has it impacted your church service and other basic church practices? How has your family changed?

I would also be willing to consider including any insights you have learned from the scriptures about meditation and yoga and how this discovery or a-ha has helped you/your family. Please send me these as soon as possible. My God-given deadline is soon, so if you feel the nudge to share, why not write it now? You don't have to be a great writer; I can edit it for you if you like. Please share. Email stories to progressiveprophetess at gmail you know the rest. Thanks! I'm so excited.

I heard that the theme for next year's Time Out For Women (big yearly LDS women's inspirational conferencey thing) is ""Neglect not the gift that is in thee...MEDITATE upon these things; give thyself wholly to them."  I love how the first part indicates that we all have what we need within us. Does anyone know how I become a presenter? So far the only requirement I have heard of is that I have to have a book for sale at Deseret Book. (I do.) I have never even been to Time Out before. But I think it needs to happen. Whoever needs to call me please do it in advance so I can be available.

OOH, and I forgot the best part. I would like to do a kind of contest to come up with some cool cover art and interior art for the meditation book. This is why I love self-publishing--I don't have to get stuck with a crappy cover design or stock photos that the corporation--who doesn't meditate--liked. So if you are a photographer or an artist and you can envision something fantastic related to meditation, the chakras, or Christ meditating, or something I haven't even thought of, I would be honored and thrilled to consider it.

When you are ready, please send me a scanned version or high res picture of your image (with your name in the image title) and I'll dance with delight at each one. I will keep them all safe in a folder marked Awesomeness, and in a few months I will pick my favorites and then allow readers to vote what they like best. Sound cool? I hope so. Please email them to the same email mentioned above. By sending me an image or story you agree to let me use it, but understand publication or use is not guaranteed. I may hit you up for official documentation later. Sat nam.

5 Thoughts On Sunday

Sometimes (all the time lately) I have too many blog posts to write, so I have decided to do a whole bunch of short ones at once before they get replaced by new ones and I never get around to it. So here are 5 Things. Some of them are mind blowingly awesome, others might not be, but I had to get them out. (If you have trouble commenting try try again. I don't know what the heck is wrong and why people can't comment sometimes. If you know, please help. Thanks!)

One- I Heard a Good Rumor

Back in June I heard that the Bishops's Storehouse is going GMO free. I haven't heard anything since then, so if anyone can confirm or disprove this rumor, I would be grateful. If you don't know, the Bishop's Storehouse is part of the welfare program of our church, so they give food to the poor in our country and I think it is also the source for food to send overseas.

If you don't know what GMOs are, it stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. Sound tasty, right? It means the food was made or altered in a lab. GMOs are not only linked to infertility, low birth weight, and ALL kinds of other problems, but they deprive a person of vital nutrition. Sure it seems like you are eating healthy, but wait.... it's actually not food. I have read studies to back all this up, but I am a notoriously bad source citer and I'd rather you go do the research and not take my word for it.

The reason I think this is soo cool if it is true is that it means that some out there is reading the Word of Wisdom (which is kind of our LDS code of health) the same way I do and that is that all things that were created by God were ordained for the good and for the use of man. Things made in a lab are not made by God. I have way more I could say on this, but I will refrain. So I hope the rumor is true. Next best would be if they went organic.

Two- The Age of Experience is Getting More Experiential

Back in March I wrote a post explaining some of what the Aquarian Age is all about and how our Prophet and high ranking church leaders totally get it, even if they aren't calling it that. One of the big points is that it is the age of experience. It used to be if you wanted to know something you went to school or a book or to someone smarter than you who had done a lot of school and book learning. Now it's about having the experience yourself, specifically of having the experience of God within you and personal revelation. While this has ALWAYS been our church doctrine, until now we hadn't been living in a word that was friendly to that concept. Now we are. And I just heard another rumor, from a private correspondence, that the Bretheren (church leaders) are doing everything they can recently to encourage members to get their own personal revelation and answers and to live by those answers. Temple presidents have even been recently counseled not to answer any questions about symbolism or meaning in the temple--not even to give their own opinions in private meeting within the temple. We are all to see our own inspiration and divine experiences and manifestations. Sounds like the age of experience. It's time to find out what you believe. Not what "we" believe.

Three - I'm Doing a Podcast

In April, I said out loud that I wanted to do a podcast. I have no idea why. I don't even listen to podcasts. But I knew I needed to do it. Several months later, Andy Rasmussen, who has taken my meditation class, asked if I wanted to co-host a podcast with him and we're going to do it. Andy has lots of radio experience, so he's taking care of things and all I have to do is show up. It's going to be titled Zion Consciousness: Mormons in the New Age. (Or something like that.) The format may metamorphasize as we grow into it (we may interview people, we may  not), but the general concept is that we will discuss and connect the Mormon idea of Zion with some of the New Age concepts out there. We'd like to give Mormons a vocabulary to bridge the gap between our culturally Western religious experience and the Eastern idea of increasing levels of consciousness.

Andy said it well in an email to me:

"There are so many members of the Church right now that are feeling the stirring and find themselves drawn to new dimensions and experiences of spirituality. - And on the other side, there are many others that are stumbling across "new" (not really) information that they perceive as challenging the foundational LDS stories upon which their faith rests."
This podcast would be for both groups. It will give the first group permission, without feeling like they doing something wrong, and it will help the second group dispel fear and see that it is the "same God who worketh in all."

As you see in the thought #2, this is the age of experience, so besides merely discussing these things and showing you how deep and smart we are, our goal is to create or give the audience something that can be applied and experiential. I'm still not exactly sure what that looks like yet, but God will guide the way. I'm excited. It should be up in about a month. Right now we have everything we need, but we'd love to have help with sound editing (simple stuff, adding some intro music and out music, etc and making it sound professional) if anyone out there is interested in that would love doing it. We could do it ourselves, but the thought came to see if anyone wants to be involved. So if you can reliably help + or - one hour/week, please comment or send me a private message.

Four - The Best Two Years Of Your Life - Huh?
Today in church 4 people were asked to talk about their mission experience and what they learned from it. These were all people who had at least 25 years or more between them and that experience.

Here are some notes I wrote:
  • They were the best 2 years because for 18 years you focused on you and for 2 years you didn't focus on yourself. Like Christ did.
  • Learned to love the people.
  • Why can't we just all focus on others, be like Christ, love people in our town NOW and have great years.
  • They prayed about what to do and where to go that day. What if one did that now. Maybe tomorrow I will put aside my to-do list and say where do you want me to go/do today? I wonder if we'd all get way more done toward mission in life stuff and be way less frustrated. And maybe all the mundane details on to-do list would take care of themselves. This is what I will do tomorrow.
Five - The Gathering is Now

Remember how we are living in a prophecy? Yeah. It's now. Here is an excerpt from an email I got from Robyn in Idaho. Perhaps this is why I felt the need to teach a retreat in Idaho this month.
"So the other night an 'emergency' meeting was called for all of the bishoprics, EQ presidents and HPQ leaders in our stake. Basically under the direction of the First Presidency our Area Authority directed all of the stake presidencies in our region to exercise the keys of gathering in their stakes and wards. They were told that this was the time of the last great gathering and that the lowering of the missionary age was also a part of this."
Of course, this is not a super surprise. The church even launched a website about the Hastening. The emphasis is on missionary work and reactivation, but I think that the keys of gathering involve more than that.  And if this hasn't happened in your area yet, maybe it's because certain places are going to be hot spots for certian events sooner than others. The point is, the time to up-level and prepare is now. And as Lani wrote in a recent post, mediation is a great way to prepare for Zion. It give you a straight pipeline to God. What could be more a appropriate guide/protector/friend/light through the Aquarian Age.

That's all for now. Xo. Sat Nam. Love Comments.

My Virtual Re-Birth Blessingway

The five of us authors of The Gift of Giving Life have had a Google group for years now. Let me see... since 2009. And it wasn't just us, there were a few other contributors and a very lovely assistant who kept us organized that were all part of the group. When we first formed, none of us was pregnant, but as we grew through the process, and as the process dragged on, one or two of the girls became pregnant and we decided to throw a virtual mother shower.

I don't remember how it started or who was first, but now it seems that we have done over a dozen with several of us having had more than one. The process usually involved being secretive and getting everyone but the expectant mom to submit a birth wish or thought and a bead and one person would make a necklace or bracelet and send all the thoughts and beads and maybe some other gift in a nice package. We got more creative and one year there were 3 pregnant at the same time. That was the year of the Bonsai trees. I remember that was the year that after pouring over bonsai trees and figuring out which ones for which weather, I decided to get one for myself. I figured no one else was going to.

There were a few times that I wondered out loud if they would ever be doing one of these blessingways for me--if it would ever be my turn. But last year when they all sacrificed so much to come to my wedding I was so thrilled, I wasn't thinking about that anymore. Getting everyone together all in one place and hearing their wishes in person was beyond anything I could have ever wanted.

Then life changed. And now I have a new life and it is amazing and becoming more exponentially so each day.

About a week after I unpacked my last box I got a box in the mail from my dear friend Lani. I had a feeling it was something special so I waited till Phoebe was asleep so I could open it by myself. I'm glad I did because I don't think she would have understood the weeping.

There were some other things in the box, that were very special, but what kind of blew my mind was this:

and all these:

It was not just from my Gift of Giving Life sisters, but from dozens of people that I know and love and who apparently love me, too. I was surprised by how many people she was able to find, that I didn't know she knew, or even knew how to contact them.

All of them sent me wishes for my new life. I weep even now as I re-read them. They are so beautiful individually. And all together they amount to so much more than just a wish or a thought or a poem or a prayer. They amount to a miracle. And they show me that my life is a miracle--that I have touched many people, that I am held in the light of God's love--and that "Love is Fire....It is is Fire with a large F. It is Divine Fire." - Truman G. Madsen

The last letter in the massive scroll was from Lani, my dear sweet friend and soul sister who I called every day when she was sick last year. And when she was finally herself again, the roles reversed and I called her every day again--this time she was the one listening to me ask if this suffering would ever ever end.

She wrote it best in her letter to me:

"I stood by and watched you in the fire, burning, burning, burning. It was like the most massive bonfire ever, and it just wouldn't stop. Burning, burning, burning. But only a magnificent blaze could possibly have encompassed your essence, radiant even in your agony.
And then you emerged from the flames, your feet ablaze, the Lioness who shines with the Light of God's divine Name. And when your feet touched the ground, all of creation vibrated with a new song."

I am so grateful for that agony and for God's hand that has led me to this rebirth. I am filled with love for the many people who have born me up and for the new song that vibrates my whole life.

I know there are others who are not represented on this necklace, but I feel your wishes in my heart and I love you dearly. May all peace and light approach you forever.

Sat Nam.

The Yoga Section of the Doctrine and Covenents

Did you know that the Doctrine & Covenants has several sections on Kundalini Yoga?--Okay I don't mean this literally. But there are many places in the Gospels and the Book of Mormon and the D&C that have many layers of meaning and I see Kundalini Yoga and Meditation all over them. [For those who don't know, the D&C as we call it is a collection of modern revelations that Mormons also consider scripture--in addition to The Bible, Book of Mormon and several other documents, which we also consider to be the word of God. You can learn more about it here.]

For now, I will just cover section 65. It's short (only 6 verses), so I will reprint the whole thing with commentary.  This revelation was given through Joseph Smith, the prophet in October 1831.

Hearken, and lo, a voice as of one sent down from on high, who is mighty and powerful, whose going forth is unto the ends of the earth, yea, whose voice is unto men—aPrepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
If the "Kingdom of God" is within you, as Jesus said, then it makes sense that the way of the Lord, could be the straight path of the spine. Keep the spine straight is essential in the technology of God-realization, which is Kundalini Yoga.

The akeys of the bkingdom of God are committed unto man on the earth, and from thence shall the cgospel roll forth unto the ends of the earth, as the dstone which is cut out of the mountain without hands shall roll forth, until it has efilled the whole earth.

The keys of the kingdom here are of course referring to the priesthood keys which were restored through Joseph Smith and which are enabling the gospel to roll forth on the earth. But when I think again of the kingdom of our bodies, I think about what keys do. They open locks. In the science of kriya yoga there are 3 locks in the body. For example, when a person pulls the root lock they tighten the anus, sex organs and navel, which directs the energy flow up the spine. Another lock is the neck lock. If the neck is not locked, the energy may rise up the spine and then get stuck at the base of the neck.

The chakras are also often to compared to lock or seals that open.

The second part of this verse describes the hastening forth of the Gospel. The gospel is the good news, and we are indeed seeing the fulfillment of this prophecy with the spread of missionary work. Also recently, other good news is spreading. For example, the practice of Kundalini Yoga is also growing at a rate of 20% /year. Someone once asked my teacher why it was growing so fast. She said, "Because people are falling apart and it works really fast."

Yea, a voice crying—aPrepare ye the way of the Lord, prepare ye the bsupper of the Lamb, make ready for the cBridegroom.

Preparation is so key. I can say more about preparation in another post, but a daily practice of communion with God is the best kind of preparation.

When I think about the Bridegroom, I think of people wearing white. If you practice kundalini yoga and meditation for long, you'll find it's not like other yogas. The teachers don't wear black tight clothes and show off their bodies. Most teachers wear white, dress modestly in attractive, loose fitting clothing, and cover their heads. The students tend to follow. I love white! I want to be wearing white when I meet Jesus.

Pray unto the Lord, acall upon his holy name, make known his wonderful bworks among the people.

The practice of mantra meditation, whether chanted out loud or silently, is a practice of calling on the many different names of God and praising Him! People think this section is about prayer but it is really about meditation. I have said it before: Meditation is a form of prayer, but prayer is not meditation.

Call upon the Lord, that his kingdom may go forth upon the earth, that the inhabitants thereof may receive it, and be prepared for the days to come, in the which the Son of Man shall acome down in heaven, bclothed in the brightness of his cglory, to meet the dkingdom of God which is set up on the earth.

Okay. There is a lot of great stuff in this verse. First, it repeats the directive to call on the name of the Lord. Mantra, Mantra, Mantra!

Then there is some discussion of the coming of Christ to meet the kingdom of God which is set up on the earth. I think we usually think of this as the literal Second Coming. I think that there are two meanings. It is one of God's patterns to create everything spiritually first, then physically. So before the literal second coming happens, there needs to be a spiritual second coming, to the Kingdom of God which is set up on the earth in our own bodies. "The Kingdom of God is within you."

Also, the word "meet" implies that both parties travel.  Perhaps this is why we need to raise our Kundalini (up the straight spine) and Christ will come down and there will be a meeting. Perhaps this is why the crown chakra at the top of the head is also called the 10th Gate. This is the gate which Jesus will enter.

Wherefore, may the akingdom of God go forth, that thebkingdom of heaven may come, that thou, O God, mayest becglorified in heaven so on earth, that thine denemies may be subdued; for ethine is the honor, power and glory, forever and ever. Amen.

It is my belief that when enough people on earth experience the raising of their kundalini/awakening their divine potential, and experience this spiritual second coming, then the earth will be ready for the literal second coming.

Did Joseph Smith know about the kundalini yoga and meditation technology of God-realization when he received this? Who knows. But God, who gave him the revelation certain knew about it and Christ certainly did, as I have been writing about in my tagged posts Yoga of Jesus.

If you have any further thoughts on this or questions, feel free to comment.

I love how sci-fi movies always tend get it without telling anyone they get it...

Retreat in Idaho

Last week I was feeling like I needed to go to Idaho. Soon. So I put it out there on FB and got lots of interest and ideas and within two days I had planned a short retreat in southeast Idaho.

Here are the details on the Lava Hot Springs Retreat if you haven't already heard about it.

It's going to be Friday-Saturday September 27-28, 2013. You can come overnight or just come for Friday night, or all day Saturday.

Here is where we are going to have it:

The School House Inn:

It has about 10 various sized beds and varying levels of privacy-private bathroom, etc. You can view their website here. So if you want to stay overnight, please book soon because the sleeping is limited.

All meals will be catered. There will also be health snacks. I found a lacto-vegetarian caterer who I think will do a fabulous job. If you are gluten-free, please let me know when you register.

Here is the tentative agenda:

Arrive any time after 4:00 p.m.
Official check in time is 5:00 p.m.
Dinner and socializing: 6:00 pm.
7:00 - Yoga, Meditation, and Spiritual discussion on Zion Consciousness
9:00 p.m. Hot springs or go to bed. Yogi's choice.

Morning  Sadhana 4 a.m. (optional)
Breakfast: 7 or 7:30 a.m.
9:30 am - Yoga, Meditation, Humanology (Spiritual lecture) -Remove doubt, fear, conquer imagined disabilities, and tune into 1000 Kilowatt awesomeness.

6:00 Women will go to RS

Men are welcome to this retreat. So for I don't think any are staying over night but I know one man is planning on coming to the Saturday event with this wife. Men actually really love Kundalini Yoga and it's not a girly thing. Andy, if he comes, can talk sports as well as he can talk Zion Consciousness. Just so you know--in case you are a man out there reading this or if your wife is telling you about it.

This schedule may change but it will give you an idea.

To register, please visit

You can post unanswered questions in the comments.

I so look forward to meeting all the people who have touched me with their faith and openness in Idaho. Also, if anyone from Utah wants to go, there is a carpool happening. I can hook you up or you can do so in the comments.

Metaphysical Pest Control - HELP!

UPDATE: Since about two hours after I wrote this post and put it on FB, this place has been an ant ghost-town. Even the flies are dropping. Also, yesterday the temperature finally dropped into the bearable range. I knew it work. Thanks friends!

I am writing this out of sheer desperation. Also hope and faith.

Though my new home is awesome, there is one problem. It isn't exactly winterized. It is full of holes and cracks that I can see right through. (It's a pool house in California, what can you expect.) Since it has been really hot lately (the whole time we have been here), we have been having an ant problem.

I have tried everything from essential oil sprays to toxic chemicals--I draw the line at Chinese chalk.

A few days after we moved in, I was getting tired of it. We keep the house spotless, but still they come. And not just to the kitchen. To the bathroom and other random places where there is nothing I could imagine them wanting.

So I called Phoebe in and told her the story of how I used to be afraid of dogs. As a kid there was one big scary dog that came over the fence every time I went into our back yard to play. The dog probably just wanted to play, but it was a big German Shephard and I was a tiny little girl and I just knew it was goign to eat me. I told her how my parents suggested I pray about the dog. So I did. And the dog never came back. It was my first miracle.

I told Phoebe this story as a way of telling myself that prayer could work for ants, too. If it was important to us, why wouldn't it be important to God. So Phoebe prayed that the ants would leave us alone and they magically disappeared for a few days.

But then they came back. Mer...

I am a firm believer in the praise principle, so I have been trying to find a way to praise God for the heat and for the ants. But I was seriously grouchy about them this morning when I was trying to meditate. But the meditation did work in that I got an attitude adjustment. Praise God for the ants because they are showing me where the cracks and weaknesses are in my house, so that I can seal them up before the winter when it gets really cold.

This morning I spent more than hour following them and putting silicone sealant on every crack and hole I could find. I ran out of sealant. I am about to go to the hardware story to buy the hugest tube they have along with some foam tape to seal some of the cracks in the doors and windows.

Now that I have sealed of half/maybe more of their entry/exit points, more suddenly appeared and they are all running around like crazy in no particular pattern. Which makes them harder to kill. Sigh.

I'm really frustrated. Praise the Lord for my frustration because it made me sit down and write this. I would like to perform an experiment. Actually, it's not an experiment if you know it will work.

I'd like to ask for the unified faith and prayers of everyone out there who cares enough or who has ever had an ant problem. If enough faith can move a mountain then it can certainly create a metaphysical bubble of peace around my home that can't be crossed by ants/spiders/rolly pollies/flying ants/and other bugs that might try to think about getting that I dare not name because my friend Christina will have a phobic reaction just reading it. And even though it may seem silly, I know God cares about our small problems and about how we spend our time. I have prayed about some very small things, that were a very big deal to me, and God totally came through. For this one, though, it seems that I need to call in some unified reinforcements.

If you will pray for us/our house, please leave a comment. And if you are have a similar problem and want our faith and prayers, just let us know. We'll put you on our pest control prayer roll.

Praise God that this is my biggest problem right now.

PLEASE DON'T TELL  ME ANY MORE HOME REMEDIES OR SOLUTIONS. I am going the miracle route now. Miracles are so much cleaner. :)

New Home

I have been in my new home about 3 weeks now. I unpacked my last box a week ago and hung up art and enrolled PJ in "school" (more on that later sometime) and I only have a few little things left to do.

It took a while to get internet so I had plenty of time to just focus on how awesome my new town is. The day we arrived in Ojai was a Monday at 2 p.m. When I realized that I was going to need more help than I had, I texted the bishop of the Ojai ward (the day before--yes, he texts.) Somehow, even though it was stake conference he rounded up a bunch of people to help me. I knew it would be tough on a Monday at 2 p.m. But when we got here there were 18 people waiting for us. That's kind of amazing to me. Most were youth or retired guys. We had WAY more help than we needed so much people just hung around and let Phoebe entertain them. I got digits of 3 great babysitters on the spot.

Our new home is totally awesome. I don't know why I was stressing trying to find a place. God was pre-arranging everything better than I could have imagined. Sometimes I feel like I died and woke up in my dream life. Here is a picture of the view from the front of my house.

Here is the view from the back around sunrise. See those trees down there... Those are our orange groves. We have fresh squeezed orange juice every day.

Here is me by the pool. It has been super hot lately so we have been living in it.

Our third night in town we went to the local concert in the park series. I know lots of cities have these kind of thing, but I am used to them hiring different bands to come out every week. Well, this town has it's own big band. And they perform every week for 6 weeks. At intermission they have a parade and all the kids march around with balloons and you can buy popcorn and lemonade. It had a pretty cool small town feel and I realized that I was now a part of this--not just a city visitor.

Phoebe and I danced to the final song along with lots of kids.

I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with the feeling that we made the right decision in moving here.

This is me relaxing in my outdoor living room. You can see a fabulous sunset getting ready to happen in the reflection of the window.

Here are some more pictures:
